The setting is the mid-Edo period, when the economy was in a state of decline. Rinko, the daughter of a court noble and the sixth princess of Imperial Prince Kaninnomiya Naohito, is forced into a political marriage with the 10th shogun, Ieharu Tokugawa, and moves from Kyoto to the inner palace of Edo Castle. There were nearly 1,000 women serving the general. A fierce battle begins between the women in order to win the favor of the only person in the world. Meanwhile, a certain person is plotting to throw Ooku and the Edo Shogunate into chaos…
Oshina, played by Nishino, respects Rinko, the princess of a Kyoto imperial family, and serves her with all her heart. When Rinko marries her girlfriend, Ieharu, Oina decides to move into Edo Castle with her. She is Rinko’s best ally as she faces various trials in Ooku, and is always devoted to Rinko as her caretaker. However, Oina, who is aware that Rinko is in love with someone else, watches over Rinko with concern.

–Please tell us what you thought when it was decided that you would appear in this work.
I was happy to hear that I would be able to appear in “Ooku,” which everyone has heard of. It was a work that my mother had been watching for a long time, and I used to watch it alongside her, so I thought it was amazing to be able to be a part of such a work.
――This time, the theme of “Ooku” is “love”.What were your impressions after reading the script?
I felt that there were many sad points. Although there are fights between women, I think there are new elements that are unique to Ooku. When I spoke with the director and producers, they said they wanted to include new elements, so I feel like I’m going to take on the challenge together with them.
–Please tell us about your impressions of the role you will be playing and how you prepared for the role.
He plays the role of the main character’s childhood friend, friend, and companion, which I think is difficult because it’s a setting that’s not often seen in this day and age. While she has the ability to act as her companion, she is also a person who understands Rinko better than anyone else, and even when difficulties arise, she carefully portrays how she and Rinko overcome each other. I hope I can go. Both Rinko and Oya are strong people with firm cores, and I think that even if one of them is about to give up, the other one will always be able to save them, so the strength of their bond is strong. I hope to be able to deliver this to those who are watching it.
–Finally, please give a message to the viewers and fans who are looking forward to the broadcast.
This time, “Ooku” is a historical drama, but as the director said, I want to take on the challenge without getting too caught up in the idea of being a historical drama. The words spoken are similar to modern language, and I think the content is easy to understand for viewers, so I hope they enjoy it as much as they would a modern drama. While valuing the worldview of the previous “Ooku”, I will do my best to deliver a new “Ooku”, so I would be happy if you could take a look.
■Comment from Planning/Hideki Yasunaga (Fuji Television Programming Department)
When I was watching the drama “Unsung Cinderella: Hospital Pharmacist’s Prescription” (July 2020 / Fuji TV), I thought that if I were to do “Ooku” someday, I would definitely ask Mr. Nishino to do it. . The softness and flexibility that he shows in variety shows, and the strength of his core that he shows in between his fluffy parts, supports the shogun’s legal wife, Rinko (Fuka Koshiba), but is caught up in a storm, fighting, and being toyed with. I think it’s perfect for the item. I think the sight of Nishino wearing a gorgeous kimono will also be a highlight of the drama. Please look forward to it!
