The final performance of BUMP OF CHICKEN’s national arena tour “BUMP OF CHICKEN TOUR Homesick Satellite 2024” was held today, April 25th, at Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

“Homesick Satellite 2024” was held as a revival performance of the tour “Homesick Satellite” that was held in 2008 with the album “orbital period”. “Orbital period” is a word that expresses “revolution period,” and the title was given because each member encountered the concept of “28-year period” in astronomical terms when they were 28 years old. The band is reviving this tour to commemorate their 28th anniversary this year. Starting on February 11th, the group’s 28th anniversary, they held 16 performances at 8 venues nationwide, attracting a total of 150,000 people. The tour was directed by Kento Yamada, who vividly colored the world of the live performance through a variety of magnificent images and dynamic sets.

The huge steel tower with a parabolic antenna standing on the stage and the twinkling starry sky behind the stage heighten the expectations of the audience filling the seats. The announcement before the performance also sounded like a spaceship communication, creating an atmosphere befitting the tour title. As the intro to the opening number “Mayday” played, the members appeared on stage to tremendous cheers. When the countdown on the screen stopped at “00 00 28 00 00,” Motoo Fujiwara (Vo, Gu) held his guitar high, announcing the beginning of the journey. The 10,000-strong audience responded by raising their fists to Fujiwara’s cry, “We’re the foursome who were looking for you, we are BUMP OF CHICKEN! We missed you! Come on, let us hear your voice!” .

After delivering a thrilling ensemble performance of “Saiwanjin Cheer Song”, they carefully performed “Rough Maker”, a number from the indie era that established BUMP OF CHICKEN’s worldview. After taking a breather, Yufumi Naoi (B) said, “The four of us will perform with all our heart so that we can reach both those who have been here for a long time and those who are new to us today.” I’ve been given strength. Today, all four of us will leave everything here,” he declared powerfully. During “Hammer Song and Tower of Pain,” which had an impressive snare rhythm by Hideo Masu (Dr.

During his MC, Fujiwara asked the audience to listen in whatever way they felt most comfortable, such as standing or sitting, saying, “Please listen however you like, as long as you respect manners. You picked up our music and came to our live shows, and we were able to meet you, and that’s all that matters,” he said kindly. Next, he delivers a gentle world of “hirogoto” that embodies his feelings for the audience. During “Candy Song”, the audience was overwhelmed by Fujiwara’s increasingly passionate voice and the band’s performance, and listened with bated breath, and when the song ended, they gave a big round of applause as if they had come to their senses.

At this point, the four of them walked along the flower path to the center stage in the center of the arena. “Tokyo Hymn” began with the light guitar strokes of Hiroaki Masukawa (guitar). The four played their notes with relaxed expressions, as if enjoying the closeness to the audience. After Naoi introduced the members, Masukawa took to the microphone and began to say, “Standing on the center stage means I’ve already done a decent number of songs, so I feel lonely,” but added, “It’s fun, so it goes by quickly.” It’s just a pause. So what can I say…?” he says, causing the audience to laugh as he loses the direction of the story. Fujiwara couldn’t help but poke fun at him, saying, “He loses to me every time. It’s because of the furoshiki that I spread (lol).”

After a peaceful MC, the four performed “Did you see the bright red sky?” illuminated by laser beams coming from the steel tower. Fujiwara, Masukawa, and Naoi turned to the four sides of the center stage and looked at the audience holding up their arms with red PIXMOBs attached. Fujiwara gently extended his arm across the arena and sang, “So if there’s a meaning to keep going forever, that’s what it means to keep going,” with a subtle change in the lyrics. In response to Fujiwara’s call, “Give me a clap!”, the song “Kasabutabutabu” was performed with 10,000 people clapping their hands. At the chorus, the members and the audience sang in chorus, and the venue was filled with a warm sense of unity.

The four members returned to the main stage and resumed their live performance with the fast-paced “Teken no March.” After “Present,” which featured Masukawa’s emotional guitar solo, and “Fire Sign,” in which 10,000 people listened attentively to the powerful singalong, the live show finally reached its final stage. After raising the tension in the venue to the highest level again with “Karma,” Fujiwara greeted the audience with, “This is the last song. I’m lonely, but I’m glad to see you again. Thank you so much for today.” As if they were sad to say goodbye to the audience, they loudly sang their new song “voyager, flyby,” which is a combination of the opening song “voyager” and the last number “flyby” from “orbital period.”

In response to the encore, the four reappeared on stage and performed “Glass Blues,” followed by “Meteor Group.” Naoi expressed his gratitude to Yamada, who was in charge of the production, saying, “It’s thanks to him that we were able to have such a wonderful tour,” and vowed to reunite with the audience, saying, “Until we meet again, bye-bye! Good night!” Masukawa shouted, “Thank you, it was fun. See you again!” and Masu also walked off the stage with a smile on his face.

Fujiwara, who remained on stage for the last time, reflected on the setlist, most of which were songs released over 16 years ago, and said, “A lot of new music is being created every day, and the place of old songs is being taken away little by little.” But even within that, there is music that will take you into the future. It is music that is cherished by the people who listen to it,” he says of his thoughts on past songs. He then thanked the fans who loved each song, saying, “You took those songs seriously. It’s thanks to you that we were able to do this tour.” I’m happier than any other music in the world because I was born in this era,” he passionately said.

Thinking about the future 28 years into the orbit, Fujiwara said with a wry smile, “In the next 28 years, I’ll be over 70 years old… (lol)” and added, “Even if I become old, I won’t be able to sing in a lower key.” Even if you’re not very cool, I still want to meet you.” “Me and the members may not be well, but I want you to come and see us even if you’re not well,” he said, looking toward the future of connecting with fans, and exclaiming with a smile, “We’re the happiest band in the world!” and went on tour. concluded.

After the tour final, it was also announced that they would release their first original album in about five years, “Iris”, on September 4th, and that they would be holding a dome tour, “BUMP OF CHICKEN TOUR 2024 Sperry Rendezvous”, starting in September. Pre-orders for the album at each CD shop and EC site will start tomorrow, April 26th at 10:00. If you pre-order the album early, you will receive a serial number that will allow you to apply for the earliest ticket lottery for the dome tour.
