“How Do You Live?” UHD BD will be released in July. Ghibli’s first Dolby Atmos/Vision recording

Walt Disney Japan will release the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD of director Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film in about 10 years, “How Do You Live?” on July 3rd. The price is 11,880 yen for the UHD BD + BD version (product number: VWBS7536), 7,480 yen for the BD version (VWBS7535), and 5,170 yen for the DVD version (VWDZ7535).

This is the first UHD BD version of a Studio Ghibli work, and the UHD BD version will be recorded in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, which is also a first for Studio Ghibli. BD and DVD rentals will start from July 3rd, the release date.

Producer Toshio Suzuki’s “advertisement without advertising” created a sense of anticipation among people, became an overwhelming topic of discussion, and swept across Japan, becoming a huge hit when it was released in theaters in July 2023. Since then, it has won numerous film awards, including the 96th Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, the 77th British Academy Award for Best Animated Film, and the 81st Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film, making it the first film in the history of Japanese animation to achieve this feat.

Voice actors include Satoshi Yamatoki, Masaki Suda, Kou Shibasaki, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, and others. The music is by Joe Hisaishi, and the theme song is Kenshi Yonezu’s “Global”.

As video bonuses, the DVD version includes a storyboard (approx. 124 minutes), “Global” music video (approx. 5 minutes), Joe Hisaishi interview (approx. 10 minutes), preview editing (approx. 9 minutes), and a short movie for SNS promotion (approx. 3 minutes) included. The BD version also includes a storyboard (picture-in-picture with the main footage/approximately 124 minutes) and a dubbing script. The video benefits of the UHD BD+BD version are included only in the BD version.

Japanese recorded audio is 2.0ch stereo/linear PCM and Dolby Atmos for the UHD BD version, 2.0ch stereo/linear PCM and 7.1ch surround/DTS-HD Master Audio (lossless) for the Japanese BD version, and 2.0ch for the DVD version. ch stereo/Dolby Digital, 5.1ch surround/Dolby Digital.

As a bonus for first-come-first-served reservations, a limited number of theatrical art card preservation versions (set of 3 types) will also be available. The size is 148 x 105mm.
