The presentation ceremony and celebration for the 7th Okinawa Karate Kobudo Achievement Award (sponsored by Ryukyu Shimposha) was held on the 6th at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan in Tomigusuku City. Certificates of commendation were presented by Ryukyu Shimposha President Hitoshi Fukuhara to the five individuals who contributed to the succession and development of Okinawa karate and kobudo.
The recipients of the award were Mr. Nobuhide Asato (79), owner of the Urasoe Dojo of the Uechi-ryu Okinawa Karatedo Association, 10th Dan Hanshi, and Mr. Kazu Kamasa (79), Chairman of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Kenshi Association General Headquarters, 10th Dan, Kobayashi-ryu Hanshi. Mr. Harukichi Shimabukuro (68), vice president of the Uechi-ryu Karate-do Association, = 8th Dan Uechi-ryu Kyoshi; Mr. Kiyohide Shinjo (72), Chairman of the Uechi-ryu Karatedo Kenyu Association = 10th Dan, Uechi-ryu Hanshi, Okinawa Karatedo Goju-ryu. Chairman Sadayuki Taira (70) = 8th Dan certified instructor of the All Okinawa Karatedo Federation.
In his speech, President Fukuhara said, “All the award recipients have made great achievements in the development of karate and kobudo.I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.” The guest of honor, Governor Denny Tamashiro, praised the award recipients and said, “I would like to express my heartfelt respect for their achievements, including the accumulation of rigorous training, nurturing successors who will lead the next generation, and building networks both domestically and internationally.” Ta.
