On the 18th, the Hokkaido Police Department filed a lawsuit against Yoichi Town on suspicion of accepting bribes after receiving gift certificates worth approximately 400,000 yen from a construction company in Hokkaido as a reward for providing favors for building demolition work ordered by the town. Suspect Junichi Shoki, 52, of the same town, was arrested. Kenji Hiroshima, 79, the representative director of Hokuyu Construction, also lives in the same town, on suspicion of bribery.
Hokkaido police raided the town hall on the same day.
Shoki was arrested on suspicion of receiving compensation for choosing the company to submit a reference estimate for calculating project costs during demolition work on a building under the jurisdiction of the town board of education. He is suspected of receiving gift certificates six times between late December 2017 and mid-August this year.
