Members of a civic group discuss future plans after the removal of a memorial monument for Korean workers at Gunma Prefectural Office.

Regarding the issue of the Korean worker memorial monument in Gunma no Mori, a prefectural park in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, being removed by administrative agency, the citizens’ group that had been managing the monument held a press conference at the prefectural office on the 23rd, and announced that At the general meeting to be held on April 11th, he announced his intention to dissolve the organization and launch a new organization to tackle historical issues and other issues.

The civic group is “Society to Preserve the Memorial Monument of Memory, Reflection, and Friendship.”

It was established in September 1998 as a group to build a memorial monument. When the monument was erected, the group changed its name to the “Protection Association” and took charge of its management, but after the monument was removed, they decided to put an end to their protection activities, consolidate their efforts, and renew their activities. The “Memorial Monument Trial” support group, which supported the trial with the prefecture, will also be disbanded at the same time.

With the long-term aim of rebuilding the monument, the members also expressed the idea of ​​holding study sessions at places in the prefecture where wartime history can be confirmed and working to convey the facts.

After the monument was removed, interest in issues of historical awareness increased, and he says he has been asked to give about 10 lectures and reports, and plans to participate online in a symposium to be held in Seoul in June. “The extraordinary measure of proxy execution was taken, and the result has attracted attention.”

A general meeting to decide on the dissolution will be held from 2:00 pm at the Prefectural Education Hall in Otemachi, Maebashi City, which will also serve as a memorial gathering.
