We published the results of our analysis.

In the 30 years up to 2050, there will be 744 local governments, or 40% of all local governments, where the young female population will be less than half of the population, and these local governments will be classified as “possible to disappear”, meaning that their populations will rapidly decline after that, and that they may eventually disappear. “Gender Local Government”.

Of these, 26 of the 33 municipalities in Iwate Prefecture, or 78% of the total, were designated as “municipalities at risk of disappearing,” as the “young female population” would decrease to less than half.

By local government, the largest decrease rate for young women was in Fudai Village at 78.6%, followed by Hirono Town at 75.4%, Nishiwaga Town at 74.4%, and Tanohata Village at 70.2%. And so on.

Seven local governments had a decrease rate of less than 50%: Morioka City at 35%, Takizawa City at 37.9%, Kitakami City at 39.8%, Kanegasaki Town at 40.1%, and Shiwa Town and Yahaba Town each at 41.7%. %, Hanamaki City was 48.5%.

In a previous similar analysis conducted 10 years ago, Yahaba Town was identified as a “municipality at risk of extinction,” but this time it has escaped.

Furthermore, among the municipalities at risk of disappearing, 12 municipalities showed an improvement in the rate of decline compared to the previous survey, including Ofunato City, Kamaishi City, and Hachimantai City.

On the other hand, 14 local governments experienced deterioration, including Miyako City, Kuji City, and Ichinoseki City.

It has been pointed out that these municipalities need to take measures to curb the outflow of population to other municipalities and improve birth rates.
