A group of private experts published an analysis stating that the number of women in their 20s to 30s in 40% of local governments nationwide will be halved by 2050, and that “the number of women in their 20s to 30s may eventually disappear.”
Within the prefecture, all municipalities other than Akita City are considered “municipalities at risk of extinction.”

The expert group “Population Strategy Council” analyzed the number of women in their 20s to 30s and the rate of decline in the “young female population” for each city, ward, town, and village based on estimates by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research. .

In the 30 years up to 2050, there will be 744 local governments, or 40% of all local governments, where the young female population will be less than half, and it is predicted that these local governments will experience a sharp decline in population and may eventually disappear. .

Within the prefecture, all municipalities except Akita City are “municipalities at risk of extinction,” and the proportion of “municipalities at risk of extinction” is the highest among the 47 prefectures.

Of these, Oga City had the highest rate of decline in the young female population at 77.4%, followed by Kamikoani Village at 77.3%, and Fujisato Town at 76.6%.

In the previous analysis conducted 10 years ago, Ogata Village was the only municipality in the prefecture that was not listed as a “municipality at risk of extinction,” but this time, the decline rate in the young female population was 58%, making it a “municipality at risk of extinction.” “have become.

On the other hand, Akita City improved by 12.3 points from the previous time to 42%, breaking away from the “local government at risk of extinction” status.

Furthermore, although the five cities and towns of Katakami City, Kitaakita City, Kosaka Town, Yappo Town, and Gojome Town did not escape the status of “municipalities at risk of extinction,” the rate of decline in the young female population was the same as in the previous survey. Much improved.

Regarding the fact that the ratio of local governments at risk of extinction was the highest in the country in an analysis by a group of private experts, Governor Satake said, “I think Akita City’s removal from the list of local governments at risk of extinction is a slight improvement, but… There is no change in the fact that we are in a critical situation, and we would like to analyze trends in each municipality.”

Regarding future measures, he stated, “Population decline is unavoidable, but we need to seek the understanding of prefectural residents in order to slow down the rate of decline as much as possible.”

Commenting on the analysis by a group of private experts, Mayor Hozumi of Akita City said, “We recognized that the rate of decline in the young population has been improved by positioning countermeasures against population decline as the most important issue and creating jobs and creating an environment in which it is easy to raise children. Meanwhile, the population of Akita City continues to decline, dropping below 300,000 people in November last year, and the city continues to take steps to counter population decline with the aim of becoming a sustainable “city of choice” in the future. I will do my best,” he commented.
