On the 25th, the government held a meeting of related ministries aimed at preventing child sexual harm, and compiled comprehensive measures consisting of four pillars, including prevention of sexual harm and support for victims. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who was in attendance, instructed relevant ministers to take countermeasures, stressing, “There is no end to cases of sexual violence against children, so we can’t wait to take action.”
In terms of preventing abuse, the bill stipulates the creation of a “Japanese version of DBS” that will check the history of sexual crimes of people who work in contact with children. A bill incorporating the establishment of the system has been submitted to the current Diet session, and Ayuko Kato, Minister in charge of Children’s Policy, announced at the meeting that a new meeting of related ministries and agencies will be established to proceed with preparations.
In terms of victim support, child guidance centers across the country will be asked to respond appropriately when a victim consultation is received.
