One month forecast for Hokkaido: Temperatures are high, and even on hot summer days, be careful of your physical condition | AERA dot.

--

Over the next month, Hokkaido will be easily covered by warm air, so temperatures will be higher than normal. It is said that the UV rays in May are about five times as strong as in the middle of winter. With the upcoming long holidays coming up, please be sure to take precautions against UV rays when going out.

Week 1 (April 27th to May 3rd): There will likely be many opportunities to go out during the long holidays.

Today (25th), the Sapporo Regional Meteorological Observatory announced the outlook for the next month.
There will be many sunny spells and sunshine through Monday the 29th, and the weekend will be a good day for going out as the long weekend begins. From Tuesday the 30th to Wednesday the 1st, it will rain in many places due to a trough of atmospheric pressure including a low pressure system. Depending on the course of the low pressure system, there is a risk that the amount of rain will increase, especially on the Pacific side, so please pay close attention to the latest weather information.
There will be many sunny days from Thursday the 2nd onwards, and the second half of the long holiday will likely be good weather for cherry blossom viewing and other excursions.

Temperatures will be at or above normal, with some places experiencing early summer-like heat, especially until around Monday the 29th. We recommend going out in clothes that are easy to adjust. From Tuesday the 30th, temperatures are expected to be at or slightly below normal, and the heat is expected to subside.

2nd week (May 4th to 10th): High temperatures continue, with summer-like sunshine.

The weather will change every few days, with high and low pressure systems alternating. The last weekend of the long holiday period will have sunny skies in many places, making it a good time to go out for cherry blossom viewing and sightseeing.

As warm, humid air tends to flow into Hokkaido, temperatures on the Sea of Japan and Pacific sides will be higher than normal, and temperatures on the Sea of Okhotsk will also be at or above normal.

In addition, pollen is more likely to fly on sunny days with high temperatures and dry air. In addition, if the wind is strong, it will be easier to fly off, so on days when these weather conditions apply, be sure to take special precautions against pollen.

3rd to 4th week (May 11th to 24th) Be careful of UV rays!

The weather is still expected to change every few days.
It is said that ultraviolet rays on a sunny day in May can be five times as strong as in the middle of winter. It’s not summer yet, so don’t let your guard down just because you’re in Hokkaido, and take precautions such as sunscreen and a parasol.
Even if it’s cloudy, the amount of UV rays will be about 60% of that of a clear day, so it’s a good idea to take precautions even when the sun isn’t out.

Please note that temperatures on the Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk sides are expected to be similar to normal, as there is a possibility that the weather will be temporarily affected by cold air. On the other hand, temperatures on the Pacific side will remain at or above normal.
Compared to the first half of May, there may be days when the cold suddenly returns, and the temperature may change significantly. Please be careful not to get sick due to the daily temperature changes.
