At “After School Ocean’s Love Chigasaki,” where children with various characteristics such as intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities participate, children enjoy sports and experiences in nature while developing their cooperative skills, challenging spirit, and communication skills. With the aim of nurturing children, we offer surfing and various sports experiences.
The Samukawa High School Baseball Club, which cooperated with us, is focusing not only on baseball practice, but also on various activities such as interaction with the local community. It is an opportunity to learn not only baseball techniques but also the way of thinking that you want to acquire for the future. A lot of it has been incorporated.
This time, we decided to hold the event as an opportunity for the children of Ocean’s Love to have fun and interact together while being taught Baseball5 (hand-hitting baseball with a rubber ball) by the players of the Samukawa High School baseball team.
On the day, 11 people from Samukawa High School baseball club and 9 people from Ocean’s Love participated.
First, we introduced ourselves to each other, warmed up, and then had the baseball club members demonstrate how to play Baseball5.
From there, the children went into the practice menu that had been planned for this day, and the children memorized the movements while being carefully taught how to catch and throw the ball, and practice hitting the ball with their hands.
At the end of the game, the teams were divided into two teams, and when they scored, the whole team was overjoyed!
Regardless of whether things went well or failed, the players encouraged the children and the classroom was filled with smiles.
After the class, the children handed out thank-you message boards, and the players presented hardballs as gifts.
Although it was my first time experiencing Baseball5, it was a great time for children from the same area to enjoy sports together and interact with each other with smiles on their faces.
The sports experience class “Be A Sportsman!!” is held with the theme of aiming to become a “sportsman” in the true sense of the word, by striving towards a goal and not being discouraged by failure.
We will continue to participate in various sports so that children can become cool athletes by enjoying sports together with athletes.
