Early on the morning of the 25th, a light passenger car being chased by a police car in Nagoya’s Minami Ward collided with a car that was waiting at a traffic light, then fled the scene.
According to the police, shortly after 5:30 a.m. on the 25th, at a traffic lighted intersection in Uchidabashi 1-chome, Minami Ward, Nagoya City, a police officer on guard in his patrol car spotted a light passenger car that had ignored a red light and asked it to stop. However, he ran away.
A police car gave chase, blaring its siren, but the light passenger vehicle continued to flee, and at an intersection about 650 meters south, it struck a passenger vehicle waiting at a traffic light as it continued straight in the right-turn lane.
The front and rear bumpers and door mirrors of the car were damaged, but the driver, a 43-year-old office worker, was not injured.
Police are searching for the light passenger car as it repeatedly ignored traffic lights at least four times and continued to flee.
Regarding the pursuit of the police car, Deputy Chief Masataka Watanabe of the Aichi Prefectural Police South Police Station commented, “At this point, we believe that the execution of duties was appropriate.”
