Early part of Hokkaido Golden Week: some rain on the 28th, mostly sunny on the 27th and 29th
During the early part of Golden Week, the weather will change daily. In central Hokkaido, there may be some rain on the 28th. The weather is expected to be sunny on the 27th and 29th, making it the best time to see cherry blossoms in many places. In southern Hokkaido, it will be sunny throughout the period. In eastern Hokkaido, on the 27th, there are some places inland where temperatures will rise to nearly 30℃ during the day, but temperatures will drop to single digits in the morning and evening. There will be some rain on the 28th, and the rain may become heavier. In northern Hokkaido, clouds will be more likely to spread on the 27th and 28th, with some showers, but it is expected to be mostly sunny on the 29th. We will explain each region in detail.
Central Hokkaido Sapporo, Otaru, etc. Beware of showers on the 28th. Sunny days on the 27th and 29th, and cherry blossoms and birch pollen are at their peak.
Clouds will likely spread on the 28th, and there may be some temporary rain. Although the amount of precipitation is not expected to be large, it is likely that the rain will become heavier in a short period of time, and the rain may be such that you will need rain gear. If you plan on walking outdoors, it is a good idea to carry an umbrella that is easy to carry just in case. Temperatures will return to almost normal levels, so it’s a good idea to have a jacket that won’t let water seep in even if you get wet.
It will be sunny again on the 29th. There will be clear blue skies and no worries about yellow dust. Maximum temperatures during the day will be around average, and winds may pick up a bit. If you are going to be outdoors, it is a good idea to have a jacket that can be easily taken off and put on. Birch pollen will also be easier to fly again. Even if you don’t have symptoms, we recommend wearing a mask to prevent pollen from getting in.
Southern Hokkaido: Hakodate, Muroran, Tomakomai, etc. It will be sunny mainly on the 27th and 29th.
Southern Hokkaido, such as Hakodate, Muroran, and Tomakomai, will have clear skies on the 27th. The maximum daytime temperature will reach around 20℃ in many places, making it the perfect day for sightseeing. It looks like you can enjoy outdoor leisure activities without worrying about the weather changing. This is the best time to see cherry blossoms at famous cherry blossom viewing spots such as Goryokaku Park in Hakodate and Matsumae Park in Matsumae. Although Hokkaido is said to have little cedar pollen, it is said that 99% of Hokkaido’s cedars are distributed in areas such as Hakodate and Matsumae. If you suffer from cedar hay fever, it would be best to take precautions just in case.
There will be occasional clouds on the 28th, but we will be blessed with sunshine during the day. The “61st Zunai Cherry Blossom Festival” will be held from the 28th at the Nijukken Road cherry blossom trees in Shinhidaka Town, where the blooming was announced on the 23rd. The maximum daytime temperature will be higher than normal, but it will feel a little cooler as the sunlight weakens and the wind picks up. It’s a good idea to have a jacket to protect you from the wind when walking outdoors.
On the 29th, it is expected to be sunny mainly in the Iburi region such as Tomakomai. Maximum temperatures will continue to be higher than normal. In general, the weather is expected to be calm with weak winds.
Eastern Hokkaido: Obihiro, Kushiro, Kitami, etc. It will be hot inland on the 27th. Be careful of sudden changes in the weather on the 28th.
On the 28th, clouds will likely spread. There is a possibility of occasional light showers, so rain gear is required when going out. Although the temperature is higher than normal, there is a big difference in temperature from the 27th, and with the addition of rain, the air may feel cool. Please be careful not to lose your health.
It is expected to be clear and sunny in many places on the 29th. Temperatures will continue to be higher than normal in places like Obihiro and Kushiro, and it will feel warm under the sunshine. On the other hand, temperatures in Kitami, Abashiri, and Nemuro will return to normal. The maximum temperature will be around 13℃, and the northerly wind will feel cold. In addition, in Kitami, where the cherry blossoms were announced to bloom on the 26th, the 36th Kamitokoro Kotohira Mountain Cherry Blossom Festival 2024 will be held on the 28th and 29th. The cherry blossoms will be illuminated at night, but please take proper measures to protect yourself from the cold.
Northern Hokkaido Asahikawa, Wakkanai, etc. Rain in some areas on the 27th and 28th, clear skies on the 29th
On the 28th, there will be periods of sunshine along the coast during the day. Temperatures are about average, so a sturdy jacket is just fine when outdoors. Inland, there will be mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers. Temperatures will return to near normal levels, so you may want to wear a thick jacket here as well.
On the 29th, it is expected to be sunny both along the coast and inland. However, winds may become stronger mainly along the coast. The temperature is about average, and the air will feel cool despite the sunshine. In addition, temperatures in the inland areas may drop to nearly 0℃ in the mornings and evenings. When traveling in the morning or evening, we recommend wearing clothing that will protect you from the cold.
