SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 is an event that can be called a real version of that. The aim is to create innovations originating from Tokyo and to disseminate future urban models.
“SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024” is an event that aims to solve problems faced by cities around the world using cutting-edge technology.
As part of SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, a “Showcase Program” will be held where you can experience the Tokyo of the future.
This is a large-scale event that will be held for approximately one month until May 26th at four large facilities in the Tokyo Waterfront Fukucenter area (Miraikan, Symbol Promenade Park, Umi no Mori Area, Ariake Arena). .
I covered the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, one of the four main venues, so I’d like to report on it.
The theme of the showcase program is“Tokyo in 2050” where “nature” and “convenience” combine. It is a space where you can feel and think about the future of Tokyo through exhibitions and workshops.

…But first, take a look at this photo. A huge cool turtle-like float. When you enter the venue for the showcase program, this float is placed prominently in the center, and whether you like it or not, it catches your eye.
The official name of this float is “Tsunaguruma”.
Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten, which has a history of more than 160 years in the field of festival equipment such as mikoshi and floats, and RDS, which specializes in cutting-edge manufacturing using digital technology, have collaborated to create traditional and symbolic items for festivals. It was created with the concept of updating the existing floats.

The upper mount, trunk mount, and front mount (the upper part of the float) are mainly made by Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten, and are traditional and “authentic” structures. The part that corresponds to the architrave (the part that corresponds to the car) is made by RDS, and its mobility is based on the motif of a sharp-eyed turtle. A wonderful collaboration of “tradition” and “future”!
An LED is embedded in the part of the turtle’s shell that emits light.
Looking at the details further, we see that there is an LED monitor on the side and an RGB LED on the turtle’s shell. It is now possible to run while projecting images and emitting light in various colors.
However, the decorative parts such as the borders and the lanterns on the top of the mountain show the craftsmanship of Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten in making authentic floats, giving you a sense of history and tradition that you won’t get tired of looking at.
Attention to detail can be seen in details such as the wheel caps.

Futuristic but traditional at the same time
