Kyokuto, a Toyama-based pharmaceutical manufacturer that produces products such as the intestinal medicine Seirogan, has been ordered to cease operations. Business suspension will be for 23 days starting April 30th.

According to Toyama Prefecture, Kyokuto had falsified the test records and shipped the Seirogan, even though the test results showed that the active ingredient, Rohto extract, was lower than the approved standard. .

The falsification of test records has occurred multiple times since December 2021, and was carried out at the direction of a supervisor.

At Kyokuto, multiple violations, including this record falsification, were uncovered after an investigation by Toyama Prefecture a year ago.

Violations spanned four items from around 2003 to July of last year.

Kyokuto says that a corporate culture that prioritizes continued manufacturing and shipping over legal compliance is a contributing factor to the inappropriate manufacturing, and is working diligently to prevent it from happening again.

The problematic lot of Seirogan was voluntarily recalled in September of last year, and there is no risk of serious health hazards, and there have been no reports of any health hazards to date.
