Kumamoto’s first! All Kumamoto’s short film competition “Video Letter” will be held at Kumamoto Prefectural Theater on Sunday, June 2, 2024

Eigent Ro.man Co., Ltd.

Eigent Ro.man Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Harutake-cho, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City; Representative: Noriya Nakagawa) will be filming on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Kumamoto Prefectural Theater in Oe, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City. For the first time, “Video Letter” will be held for short films featuring actors, staff, etc. all from Kumamoto. On the day of the film festival, in addition to screening two short films by organizer Nakagawa and an 18-year-old high school director, there will also be talk shows, networking events, and food booths. We are preparing for the production of works, crowdfunding, announcements, etc. so that this day will be an opportunity to liven up Kumamoto with videos.

A video work set in Kumamoto becomes an opportunity to change someone’s life.
The film festival’s name, “Video Letter,” originates from the video letter that Fumiya Nakagawa, the film creator who organizes the film festival, wrote to his late grandfather, which was the turning point for him to jump into the world of film production. With the hope of moving someone’s heart through images and sharing the power of stories depicted through images with as many people as possible, we decided to make our first short film and hold a film festival. The film’s director, performers, staff, filming locations, and film festival venue are all located in Kumamoto. We are striving to create a new culture in the region with the All Kumamoto lineup. Furthermore, this project will also take on the challenge of crowdfunding. We have exceeded our first goal of 2.5 million yen at an unprecedented speed, and are appealing for support from a wide range of people until May 12th (Sunday) to further achieve our goal.

Message from organizer Noriya Nakagawa
We are unknown video creators, neither famous film directors nor wealthy. At first glance, holding a film festival may seem like a no-brainer. However, in this digital era, many people gather together and share the experience of facing a screen. Connecting people and people and cities through works of art. I feel that such analog efforts have a strong significance. We aim to be a film festival that can be enjoyed not only by movie buffs, but also by people who don’t usually watch movies or go to movie theaters.
Making a film was my first experience, and I was able to feel how difficult it is, and every day was a continuous learning experience. Although the production was done within a limited time and budget, I hope to be able to proudly tell everyone in attendance on the day, “I was able to make a movie like this myself.” From now until the event, we will do our best to prepare talk shows, networking events, and food booths where you can experience the worldview of the movie through food.
Also, the presence of Shinnosuke Kawabe, a new director who will be celebrating his 18th birthday on the day of the film festival, was a major motivator for me to attend this film festival. I hope that I can convey courage and hope to the people of Kumamoto, my hometown, through his struggle to create a short film while being in the gap between being an adult and a child. There is nothing that would make me happier than if our challenge can be an opportunity to push someone else’s back.
First attempt at a movie. A short film for the film festival by two directors.
The film festival will screen short films directed by two filmmakers, both of whom are making their first attempt at film. We will screen works that reflect each person’s feelings against the backdrop of the Kumamoto cityscape.

Directed by Noriya Nakagawa “Alone” We live in a modern age where we are exposed to a large amount of information and can see many things, which has made it difficult to see what is important. A story that depicts the loneliness, conflict, and awareness of three characters living in such a modern day. The story incorporates the director’s own experiences and links the existence of the sun, moon, and stars, which are familiar to us.

Directed by Shinnosuke Kawabe “Coming of Age” A story depicting the growth of the main character, Nagi Mizushima, as she moves back and forth between dreams and reality until she reaches the age of 18 in a few months. The director, who will turn 18 on the day of the film festival on June 2nd and will be an adult, expresses the doubts and conflicts he has felt up to this point in this milestone year.
