In an effort to widely utilize Meguro’s cherry blossoms in art and music, the voluntary organization Meguro Sakura Cultural Association (Meguro-ku, Tokyo) held its first event, Arttainment Cherry Blossoms, on May 4th at Meguro Persimmon Hall (Yakumo 1). ) to open.
The association was established in March last year, centered around Jonan Tenbosha (located in the same ward), which publishes the regional information newspaper “Jonan Tenbo.” A portion of the proceeds from the event will be used to protect and nurture cherry blossoms and support environmental conservation activities.
According to the association, the row of cherry blossom trees along the Meguro River, which is crowded with many cherry blossom viewing visitors, was built in 1936 (Showa 11) thanks to the efforts of Saigo Takamori’s nephew, Saigo Jutoku, who was a leading figure in the Meiji Restoration. planted later. It is said that after the war, when the area was a burnt-out area, the local youth group worked with children to plant saplings.
Chairman Nobuko Sumikawa (76) says enthusiastically, “The local area has a history of connecting with the desire to protect cherry blossoms.We want to incorporate diverse cultures and further develop them.”
