A newly established corner focusing on the movements of the former Japanese military in Shanghai = Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama City
The “Knowing You Can See the Future: War Perpetration Panel Exhibition,” which focuses on the harm caused by Japanese people to foreigners during the Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific War, will be held from the 27th at the Kanagawa Prefectural Civic Center in Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama City. It will be done. The event is sponsored by the Kanagawa Association for Passing on Memories, which is made up of volunteers. Free admission, until May 5th.
It has been held every year since 2016, and this year is the 9th time. This time, we wanted families to come, so we decided to coincide with a long holiday. The museum is divided into 13 categories, including the comfort women issue of the former Japanese military, the Nanking Massacre, and Unit 731, and exhibits photographs and other national documents. There is also a special section on the “Mannin Pit,” where many dead people are said to have been abandoned.
Also pay attention to Shanghai, which was the base of the former Japanese army when they invaded Nanjing. This book examines the development of the Sino-Japanese War in the wake of the Shanghai Incident, based on the commonalities between Japan and China: the “concession” in Shanghai, which was a symbol of conflict over foreign interests, and Japan’s “foreign settlements.” Newspaper articles and government documents from the time show that businessmen and the media also viewed the invasion of China as an economic opportunity.
From 2pm on the 27th, the film “Nanjing! Nanjing!” (2009, 132 minutes) based on the Nanjing Incident will be shown, and from 6pm on the same day, the documentary film “We Saw Gaza Samni” filmed in the Gaza Strip in the Middle East will be shown. Screening of “Children of the House” (2011, 87 minutes). You can view both films for 800 yen as a material fee. Capacity: 260 people.
Additionally, from 2:00 p.m. on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th, there will be mini lectures by researchers on the theme of the exhibit. Participation is free. Capacity: 30 people. Kenji Takeoka from the association said, “It’s important to look at the war as a whole, focusing on the perpetrators.” (Shota Shimura)
