Venue where Katsuro Yoshida’s masterpieces were exhibited
A retrospective exhibition of Katsuro Yoshida (1943-1999), a contemporary artist known as the Mono-ha for his style of combining objects to naturally express their characteristics. , Landscapes, and the World” (sponsored by Tokyo Shimbun and others) is being held at the Prefectural Museum of Modern Art Hayama in Hayama Town, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Yoshida is known as a central figure in the Mono-ha movement that emerged in the late 1960s. He later departed from his own style and explored experimental methods such as transcription. In the late 1980s, he attracted attention with his “touch” series, in which he painted by rubbing powdered graphite on his hands and fingers.
This is the first retrospective exhibition to explore the world of Yoshida’s works. Through approximately 160 works and production notes, this exhibition traces the trajectory of his continued pursuit of his own creative activities while confronting the art trends of his time.
