Golden Week in 2024 begins with a three-day holiday starting today, followed by a four-day holiday in the second half with three weekdays in between. The longest day of the week is 10 consecutive holidays.

As with this time of year, the pressure distribution changes every few days, and low pressure and fronts are likely to have a recurring effect. The cycle is relatively slow, and two major collapses are expected during this period.

Tomorrow, the 28th (Sunday), will be sunny in many places, but rain is expected to fall over a wide area from Showa Day on the 29th (Monday) to the 30th (Tuesday) during the long holiday period due to the effects of low pressure and fronts. There is a possibility that the influence of the front will continue on the following day, May 1st (Wednesday), mainly on the Pacific side of eastern and western Japan.

The weather is expected to deteriorate during the latter half of the four-day weekend, and there is a possibility of rain over a wide area from May 5th (Sunday), Children’s Day, to the end of the holiday, May 7th (Tuesday). The timing of rain may vary slightly.

Additionally, during the Golden Week period, not only will the weather be periodically disrupted, but the front will likely remain in the south of Japan, so Okinawa, Amami, and southern Kyushu are expected to experience many cloudy and rainy days. Although there are times when the sun will reach us, there will also be times when it rains heavily.

The maximum temperature is expected to be high tomorrow, the 28th (Sunday). There are many summer days where the maximum temperature is over 25 degrees Celsius, and in some places it can be midsummer days with temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius.

After that, extreme temperatures are not expected due to the weather. During periods of bad weather, the minimum temperature will not drop much, and changes in temperature are expected to be small.

What you need to be careful about is sunny days, and there is a possibility that mornings will become colder temporarily around May 2nd (Thursday). In Hokkaido, the minimum temperature may drop to around 0℃ in some places, so please be careful when traveling.

From the second half of the four-day weekend onward, we expect that there will be many days when temperatures are at or above normal again.
