On the 21st, the Aomori Prefectural Police said that the blood of the landed trout salmon (rainbow trout) was thrown into the sea, and on suspicion of violating the Waste Disposal Law, a man (40), the president of a salmon farmer “Nihon Salmon Farm” in Fukaura Town, Aomori Prefecture. ) = Aomori City = was arrested.

Prefectural police are investigating that they may have dumped the blood of hundreds of thousands of salmon into the sea each year.

The alleged arrest was at around 5:20 am on June 15, at the Imabetsu fishing port in Imabetsu Town, Aomori Prefecture, where about 200 kg of waste liquid mixed with salmon blood was dumped into the sea.

According to the prefectural police, salmon blood is an industrial waste and must be discharged after purifying the sewage with microorganisms. The company does not have a facility to process the liquid after draining it, and it is suspected that it was dumped in the drainage ditch of the fishing port.

The company is a subsidiary of Okamura Food Industry (Aomori City), which processes fishery products. Since 2017, it has been engaged in salmon farming business in Imabetsu Town, etc., and sells it to mass retailers inside and outside the prefecture and major revolving sushi chains under the brand name of “Aomori Salmon”. This year’s shipment was expected to be 1,600 tons.

A person in charge of the Okamura food industry said, “I can’t comment on the case under investigation.”
