Mickfire avoids Champions C
◆24th Champions C/G1 (December 3rd, Chukyo Racecourse, dirt 1800m)
On November 17th, Oi’s Mickfire (3-year-old male, stabled by Kazuo Watanabe, sire Sinister Minister), who had been pre-registered as an undefeated Southern Kanto Triple Crown winner, announced that he would not be specially registered. The horse is aiming for the Tokyo Grand Prix Grand 1 (2000m dirt race on December 29th) to be held in his hometown of Oi.
Although he won his previous race, the Derby Crunch Prix (October 1st, Morioka Racecourse, dirt 2000m), which was just after the holidays, trainer Kazu Watanabe said, “It took him some time to recover from his previous race. Considering transporting it again in this condition…” “Champions C and Tokyo Daishoten. There is no difference that the opponents in both are strong. In that case, I decided it would be better to choose a stage where this horse can demonstrate its strength,” he said, explaining the reason for his avoidance. “We have about a month left. Until then, we just have to keep attacking,” said the trainer, expressing his desire to compete against the JRA forces.
The horse has been undefeated since his debut on September 23 of last year, winning the Southern Kanto Triple Crown. He won his previous race, the Derby Grand Prix, and is currently on a seven-game winning streak without a loss. After that, there was a rivalry between Champions C and Tokyo Daishoten.
