ROG Falchion RX Low Profile Review: Cool & Low Profile Gaming Keyboard

--

*Equipment rental: ASUS JAPAN Co., Ltd.

“ROG Falchion RX Low Profile” is a gaming keyboard from ASUS’s top gaming brand “ROG” for serious players. Prices range from the mid-20,000 yen range to the upper 20,000 yen range, which is a bit high. However, since it is a product for advanced users, it has excellent functions and usability, and it also has a good appearance.

Using ROG Falchion RX Low Profile on a portable gaming PC

In this article, I will use equipment borrowed from the manufacturer and review its appearance and impressions after actually using it.

point

Low profile switch allows quick operation

ROG Falchion RX Low Profile uses a unique optical switch “ROG RX Low-Profile Optical Switch.” The actuation point is shallow at 1.0mm. The difference is only a few tenths of a millimeter compared to a general mechanical switch, but theoretically it allows for a slightly more delicate operation, which could determine the outcome of the game. Please note that it is not compatible with the rapid trigger (variable actuation point) that is commonly used these days.

I’m not a serious gamer, so I honestly couldn’t experience the response of the keys. However, since the stroke is shallow,Easier to press than ordinary mechanical switches, reducing strain on fingersI feel like that. The typing feel was good and I was able to play the game without stress.

Thin & compact

Size comparison with a general keyboard *The comparison keyboard is a smaller type than the full size keyboard

The key layout is 65% smaller than the full size keyboard, so-called “65% keyboard”. It’s much smaller than a normal keyboard with a numeric keypad, and it’s also slim and lightweight. It has more presence in terms of size and weight than cheap keyboards for tablets, but it felt very compact for gaming. With this size, it is easy to handle.

Typing sound is very quiet

With a mechanical keyboard, you can hear a “clacking” typing sound, but the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile’s typing sound is “clacking” and modest. It’s not completely silent, but it’s basically quiet. Even if you play games or chat late at night, I don’t think you will be a nuisance to those around you. By incorporating two layers of silicone foam inside the keyboard, echo sounds and switch operation sounds are suppressed.

Convenient volume adjustment on touch panel

Touch panel on the back side

Various operations can be assigned to the touch panel on the back of the device. Volume adjustment was assigned by default, but this is already incredibly convenient. If you have difficulty hearing the sound while playing a game, or conversely, you can raise or lower the volume by sliding your finger. It’s also cool that the LED light is linked to it.

If you use the dedicated utility software “Armoury Crate”, functions other than volume adjustment can be assigned. Depending on your ideas, it can be used in various ways.

Alphabetical layout & special keys on the right end

Alphabet layout & special keys lined up on the right end

ROG Falchion RX Low Profile uses an alphabetic layout. Japanese input is also possible, but please note that some symbol keys are different from the Japanese layout. Also, there are special keys lined up on the right edge, but this part may also be different to your preference. I didn’t notice it at all while playing the game, but I felt like it was possible to press the wrong button when entering text.

Other special keys can also be used in combination with the Fn key. It might be a little hard to notice because it’s printed on the side of each key, but there were quite a lot of different options available.

expensive

The price at the time of writing the article (late April 2024) is around 29,000 yen. To a normal extent, it may seem quite expensive for a keyboard.

However, a “pro-grade” model that is “wireless,” “well-made,” and “made by a famous manufacturer” usually costs around 30,000 yen. In that sense, it should be considered a standard price.

A must-see for ROG user fans

ROG Falchion RX Low Profile

After actually using the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile, I found it to be a very easy-to-use keyboard for gaming. I’ve never used other companies’ products of the same grade, so I can’t compare them, but if you’re a fan of the ROG series, I think this is a product you’ll want to check out. The look is especially compatible with ROG Ally, and is suitable for those who want to unify the white environment.
