On April 26th, independent developer Cole Young released a sandwich-making simulation game calledSandwich Sim” has started free distribution for PC (Steam).

“Sandwich Sim” is a 3D sandwich-making simulation game played from a first-person perspective. Players will control a bear character and race to complete the ultimate sandwich, overcoming various obstacles. For some reason, Kuma doesn’t have a clear memory of the past eight hours, and the goal of this work is to gather ingredients and cook them using the fact that he has written down the only sandwich recipe he remembers.

However, along the way there are absurd and chaotic mini-games waiting for you, so it won’t be easy. To get to the nearest supermarket, you have to weave your way across a busy road, and if you collide with a car, you have to cross again from the far end of the road. The surreal worldview of this work is also evident in the way the bear is bounced away like a pinball when it collides with a car, and the score is added each time it hits another car.

A major feature of the gameplay is the ability to use the bear’s hands to grab and release objects, or to interfere with them. When I cross the street to go shopping at the supermarket, I refer to a list of recipes I’ve printed out at home and pick up the ingredients I’m looking for, such as bread, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and cheese, from the shelves and put them in my cart.

On the way home from shopping after collecting ingredients, I ran into a run chase with the FBI, the Federation of Bread and Ingredients, for allegedly infringing on the interests of agricultural businesses with my sandwich-making plan. also suddenly occurred. When you reach the goal while avoiding cars, trucks, and streetlights, a mini-game will begin in which you will be taken away by an agent, and if you can grab the “love button” that appears along the way before the time is up, you will have a romantic relationship with the agent and be released. is possible. Let the now-free bear cross the road again, then return home to make sandwiches.

In addition to being able to play “Sugar Bear”, a bear puzzle jump action game created by Cole Young in the past, on your PC at home, you can also enjoy a fishing mini-game where you can earn mushrooms as a reward. There is also a “Noir Mode” that changes the visuals to a monochrome screen, allowing you to enjoy a different atmosphere depending on your mood.

Cole Young is a student studying information studies and computer science at the University of California, and in addition to his studies, he finds time to work on game creation. “Sandwich Sim” is the first release on Steam, but at the time of writing, 10 titles, including this one and “Sugar Bear,” are available on itch.io. According to both store pages, in addition to Mr. Cole, students and alumni of the University of California collaborated in the development of this game, making it a total of 14 people.

“Sandwich Sim” is available for free on PC (Steam/itch.io). itch.io uses a name-your-own-price system where users decide the price, so if you want to support Cole, you can show your support here. This work is available in English and Spanish.
