INTERSECT BY LEXUS – TOKYO (hereafter, INTERSECT) will present the installation “Shaped by Air”, which was unveiled at the end of November last year, at “Miami Art & Design Week 2022” from Friday, March 17, 2023 to Tuesday, May 16, 2023. ) will be exhibited.
“Shaped by Air” is the first collaboration between New York-based artist and architect Suchi Reddy and LEXUS. Using the Lexus Electrified Sport, which symbolizes the next-generation Lexus, as a motif, it expresses Lexus’ commitment to human-centered, carbon-neutral future and design.
This work reproduces the Lexus Electrified Sport in full size with metal mesh, and surrounds it with a leaf-like design partly made from post-consumer recycled materials with the shape of the car’s face as a motif. Surrounded by objects, it reminds us of a car with the flickering of nature.
In Miami, this work was exhibited outdoors with a production of fog and light, but for this INTERSECT exhibition, the production has been reconstructed as an indoor exhibition. You can experience a new sense of fantasy and envelopment from the appearance of the light shining in the space covered with white and mirror material walls.
With the launch of the Lexus Electrified Sport, Lexus continues to take on the challenge of creating cars that are in tune with the ever-evolving world of mobility and the lifestyles of customers. Mr. Reddy’s installation symbolizes the evolutionary possibilities brought about by electrification and expresses Lexus’ vision for the future, which is human-centered, carbon-neutral, and committed to craftsmanship and quality.
At Milan Design Week, the world’s largest design event, to be held in Milan, Italy from April 17 to 23, 2023, Lexus will once again collaborate with Reddy and unveil a new immersive installation. is. Continuing from Miami, Tokyo, and Milan, we will deliver the possibilities of evolution brought about by electrification through art globally. [About Suchi Lady]
Suchi Reddy founded Reddymade in 2002. Guided by the philosophy that “form follows the senses”, we take a human-centered design approach that respects diversity and equality and addresses the economic, social, environmental and cultural impacts of both the user and the planet.
Mr. Reddy has taught at the Columbia University School of Architecture, Cooper Union’s Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, and was appointed Walton Critic of the School of Architecture at the Catholic University of America in 2022. In 2019, he was appointed Purim Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois School of Architecture at Champaign-Urbana, where his research focuses on the contemporary architectural experience through neuroaesthetics, neurophenomenology, and sensory design. Mr. Reddy has presented and lectured on Reddymade’s work at many venues, including the Salk Academy of Architectural Neuroscience annual conferences, the University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin.
He also serves on the boards of the Design Trust for Public Space, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Madame Architect, and is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Detroit Mercy School of Architecture + Community Development.
Reddymade has won numerous awards for outstanding design, including the American Institute of Architects and NYC x Design.
