There have been multiple reports of 3D V-Cache models such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D being burnt and damaged on ASUS motherboards.A report came out that Ryzen 7 7700X was damaged even in the ASRock motherboard environment. Here is the photo.

The above photo was posted by Reddit user artdekdok. The damage on the ASUS motherboard was the 3D V-Cache model, but this is the normal model Ryzen 7 7700X. When I was watching YouTube or browsing a website, the PC suddenly turned off, and when I disassembled the PC, I saw a discoloration like a burn mark in the center of the AM5 socket, and the center of the CPU was swollen. rice field. It is not clear what caused this to happen.

Artdekdok’s usage environment is as follows.

  • Motherboard: ASRock B650 PG Lightning
  • BIOS: 1.18 (AGESA ComboAM5 1.0.0.5c)
  • Memory: DDR5-5800
  • CPU settings: No overclocking, only lower voltage with PBO2 Curve Optimizer set to -20

If there is a point to worry about, is the Curve Optimizer set to a negative value to lower the voltage? However, if this is the cause, there will be more reports, and it is difficult to think that this is the cause.

Also, this may be a different issue because the location is different from the burn marks on the ASUS motherboard. However, both are the same in terms of expansion.

So far, this is the only report of the CPU dying on an ASRock motherboard, so it may be an initial failure or user’s negligence, but we agree that it expands and breaks, so somewhere may have a common cause.
