The drama “Akai Ringo” (ABC TV every Sunday from 0:25 am) starring Rio Komiya and starring Asuka Kawazu and Yume Shinjo will start broadcasting on Sunday, January 22nd. Comments have arrived from the three people and the original author, Koji Murata.
A live-action drama adaptation of Koji Murata’s “Akai Ringo” starring Rio Komiya. The original is a controversial work that has been serialized in “Comic Days” (Kodansha) since 2020 and has been “banned for being too radical”. In addition to the extreme depiction of sexuality, the theme that cuts directly into sexual acts is attracting a great deal of attention.
Set in Japan in the near future, where sexual activity is prohibited by law, the story delicately and vividly portrays the emotions that waver with desire and the urges that cannot be controlled by reason. Modern society is based on laws and rules, but what if those laws regulated even the “natural form of love” that humans should have…
The “meaning of love” and the “meaning of living” will be highlighted by setting such an impossible worldview. It is a story of lustrous and heartrending love that raises a question in today’s society, which is bound by rules, with a poignant theme.
The main character is Inuda Hikaru (Komiya), a high school student and an honor student. He has an executive of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s Sexual Enforcement Officer (commonly known as Setori) as his father, and his goal is to become a Setori himself, and he has a disgust for sexual acts that are criminals. However, at some point, you should ask yourself why sex is bad.
Then, Hikaru’s casual relationship with Minase Yu (Kawazu Asuka), a childhood friend and classmate, develops into a suspicious and mysterious incident due to a shocking encounter with the nationally popular actress Utsuko Misora (Shinjo Yume). The love story depicted in a society where sexual activity is prohibited is mixed with humor, but it is bewitching and heartrending, and eventually shows a suspenseful development.
Regarding the announcement, Komiya said, “I read the manga as soon as I received the offer, but it was interesting and I read more and more and reached the latest story (laughs). Will it be broadcast on terrestrial broadcasting…!? I honestly thought that (laughs), but I will continue shooting while doing trial and error, and I will do my best to deliver it to everyone!”

My first impression when I read the original was that the approach was innovative and interesting. Just by outlawing sexual activity, everyone approaches and feels differently about it. Some people treat forbidden sex like an illegal drug, some treat it as filthy, some treat it as just a duty, some treat it as love. I think there are as many ways to feel and think about love and sexual activity as there are people. Forbidden fruit put it all together. Adam and Eve red apple. I would like you to pay attention to how all the characters ask questions about sexual activity!
What is your impression of “Yu Minase” you play? Please let us know what part of her appealed to you.
Minase is a hero. I thought she was like the protagonist of a shonen manga. When she saw the original, I got the impression that she was a pretty girl with a foul mouth. As she continues to read, Minase is smart, her horizons are wide, she can exercise, and she uses her wit at all times. Although she tries her best to help her lover in any situation, she is actually very slow. I want to do my best to convey the cuteness of her Minase.

For me personally, this will be my first attempt at a work that focuses on sex and a role like Minase. As I went through the costume matching and the book reading, I was able to gradually grasp the image of Minase. I would like to work hard to create a work that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of gender or age.
