Toyota’s global sales increased by 7.3% from the previous year to 10,309,457 units. Although sales were lower than the latest plan of 10.4 million units due to intensifying competition in China and economic stagnation in Southeast Asia, sales exceeded 10 million units for the first time in a fiscal year. World production increased by 9.2% to 9,971,739 units.
HVs such as the Corolla and RAV4 performed well in North America and Europe, and overall HV sales increased by 31.1% to 3,557,609 units, a record high. The number of electric vehicles (EVs) also more than tripled to 116,654 units.
Global sales of the group increased by 5.0% to 11,090,108 units, and global production increased by 4.5% to 11,209,989 units.
Toyota also announced that its global sales in March were 897,251 units, down 2.1% from the same month last year. Global production decreased by 10.3% to 807,026 units.
The group’s global sales in March were 941,222 units, down 7.4%, and global production was 886,136 units, down 15.9%.
According to Toyota’s announcement, Daihatsu’s global sales in March decreased by 62.6%, including a 78.1% decrease in Japan, and global production decreased by 52.4%, including a 65.8% decrease in Japan.
The compliance with the standards for all currently produced vehicle models (except for one model whose type designation was revoked) was confirmed, and the order to suspend shipments was lifted on April 19th. The impact is expected to diminish from April onwards.
