■Episode 1 synopsis
Kankuro Haruhara (Yamashita) is a researcher at the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Meteorological Research Institute who appears on the weather corner of news programs under the nickname “Harukan.” Kumota Aya (Deguchi) comes to his laboratory as a temporary worker. Haruhara takes a harsh attitude towards Kumota when they meet for the first time, and tries to get him fired. However, Kumota also shows the competitive spirit he learned overseas.

Meanwhile, in order to protect human lives from weather disasters, it is announced to the media that the SDM (Special Disaster Management Headquarters) will be established, a unit made up of experts based on ability, regardless of rank or age. He then learns that Haruhara is the head of the meteorological team, and that Kumota has been hired as his assistant by Haruhara’s boss, Kasumi Ueno (Hiraiwa Paper). The day after the announcement was made, we received information that 10 people were lost in an avalanche due to sudden bad weather in northern Fukushima Prefecture. Without hesitation, Haruhara decides to dispatch the SDM and rushes to the scene with Kumota. However, since SDM was undergoing trial operation, there was a risk that official operation would be postponed if a major mistake were made.

The two people who arrived at the scene were SDM members and fire department chief Naoto Satake (Takuma Oto), fire chief Yugo Sonobe (Koji Mizukami), driver and cook Hikaru Maruyama (Sawa Nimura), and information. He and team member Hiroki Yamagata (Okabe University) are in charge of searching for people in need of rescue and instructing evacuations. Kumota is overwhelmed by Haruhara’s strong desire not to give up on life, and learns that Haruhara’s harshness is the other side of that. And behind those thoughts is the great sadness of five years ago…
