Peony flowers delight the eyes of visitors at the Peony Garden (Peony 1) in Furuishibagawa Shinsui Park in Koto Ward, Tokyo. In the park, approximately 630 newly planted peonies have been added to the 315 that have been planted for some time, and approximately 97 types of peonies have been blooming since the beginning of this month. The best time to see them is until early May.

In fiscal 2023-2024, the ward is promoting the creation of a “peony path” by planting peonies throughout the park, starting from the peony garden. Approximately 650 more plants are planned to be planted in fiscal 2024. Crowdfunding was conducted using the hometown tax donation system, and approximately 1.06 million yen in donations was collected.

According to the ward, the area around the peony garden is land reclaimed from the sea during the Edo period, and there were once many farmers growing peonies. The Peony Garden opened in April 1989 at the same time as the water park. 5 minutes walk from Monzen-Nakacho Station on the Toei Oedo Line and Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. (Kana Ogata)
