WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Biden’s campaign for re-election in the November presidential election comes shortly after the U.S. passed a law on the 24th that would lead to a future ban on the Chinese video-sharing app TikTok. has announced that it will continue to use TikTok in its election campaign.
The law states that unless the company behind TikTok sells its U.S. operations within a deadline, it will be prohibited from distributing the app nationwide. The reason is that it will be misused by the Chinese government to collect information and conduct public opinion polls, threatening U.S. national security.
However, TikTok appears poised to fight in court, and it remains to be seen whether distribution will ultimately be banned.See more
A senior Biden campaign official said, “Due to the fragmented media environment, we need to show up where our voters are, and that’s no different online. “It’s one of the many places where our content is guaranteed to be seen,” he said, adding that the campaign would “enhance security measures” when using TikTok.
Campaign officials have previously said that election workers can use TikTok on their own devices because they are not employed by the government or dealing with security issues.
Nearly 120 videos have been posted to the official account set up by Biden’s campaign, and Biden himself appears regularly. The number of followers has reached 306,000.
