[ワシントン 25日 ロイター] – Following pro-Palestinian protests over the fighting between Israel and the Islamic organization Hamas that took place at Columbia University last week, the university called the police to prevent protesters from setting up tents on campus, leading to many arrests. A domestic group filed a complaint with federal authorities accusing the university of civil rights violations.
The pro-Palestinian group Palestine Legal called for an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education, arguing that the university’s actions discriminated against pro-Palestinian groups. Columbia University declined to comment.
The school’s president, Nemat Shafik, called the New York City Police Department into the campus and arrested more than 100 protesters, drawing criticism from many human rights groups and students.
Demonstrations on campus continue and have spread to other U.S. universities, with hundreds of people arrested over the past week.See more
