THE YELLOW MONKEY’s solo performance at Tokyo Dome, “THE YELLOW MONKEY SUPER BIG EGG 2024 ‘SHINE ON'”, was held yesterday, April 27th. This is THE YELLOW MONKEY’s first one-man live at Tokyo Dome since their performance on November 3, 2020, which was held amid restrictions on the number of attendees due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was also the band’s first live performance in three and a half years since their performance at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on December 28, 2020.

As the countdown numbers that were ticking on the giant LED screens on both sides of the stage became smaller, the audience gradually stood up, cheered, and began to clap their hands vigorously. The venue went dark as they welcomed “000,000,000 SECONDS”, and on stage were supporting members Takashi Tsuruya (key) who had supported the concert after the reunion, Yoshiki Mikuni (key) who had been a supporter in the past, and Kazuya Yoshii (key). Vo), Hideaki Kikuchi (G), Yoichi Hirose (B), and Eiji Kikuchi (Dr) appeared. Yoshii exclaimed, “This day has finally arrived! Tonight is ‘SHINE ON’ and I want it to be the day when you and I shine the brightest.” In 2020, at Tokyo Dome, when the audience could not make their voices heard, fans’ chorus sound was played in the venue, and he said, “I would like to revive the voices of the fans here tonight.Today, feel free to say it loud and loud. Let’s make some noise!” he called out to the audience.

The first song that followed those words was “Rose-iro no Hibi.” The audience of 50,000 people, the largest audience in THE YELLOW MONKEY’s live history, sang along with smiles, and the sound source used in 2020 added color to the performance. After that, they moved on to their new song “SHINE ON,” which also became the title of this live show. After capturing the hearts of the audience with emotional rock tunes that represent the band’s latest mode, Yoshii said, “Tonight, I just want to do Yellow Monkey’s rock ‘n’ roll for the first time in a while. ”, raising the expectations of the audience.

The rhythm that Eiji Kikuchi started playing here is the intro of “Romantist Taste”. The audience cheered loudly and waved his right hand in unison. “Tactics” will entertain the audience with a dynamic visual production that uses a main vision system with a total length of approximately 126 meters that extends to the stands of Tokyo Dome. Following the ominous bridge played by Hideaki Kikuchi and Tsuruya, “Sacred Sea and Sunshine” began. The deep sound image created a unique world.

During the MC, Yoshii looked back on the days since the last Tokyo Dome, saying, “I think it’s been a really tough four years, not just for us, but for everyone. There was a gap of four years, and even though the band was 58 years old on average, we still couldn’t get together.” Thank you for doing that…” Hirose, who has just reached his 60th birthday, shows off his timidity and elicits laughter from the audience. When Yoshii saw Hirose, he said, “Heese, you’re so excited today that you haven’t even slept at all (lol). You’re 61 years old! This isn’t a field trip!”, and Hirose bursts out laughing and laughs. issued.

After that, hit singles such as “Paradise” and “SPARK” were performed, raising the tension in the dome once again. The new song “Darkness of Sonata” began with powerful solo performances by Eiji Kikuchi and Hirose. The lyrics, enlarged in a vision-distorted font, impressed the audience with the cynical world of the song. During “The Sun is Burning,” Hideaki Kikuchi, who had been parading around the arena seats, rose to the center lifter, much to the excitement of the audience.

In the middle of the concert, a documentary video was shown that followed Yoshii from the onset of laryngeal cancer to his overcoming and return to the stage. The audience holds their breath as they watch the scenes of Yoshii’s life fighting illness, including the facial expressions of the three members who support Yoshii candidly expressing their feelings, as well as images of endoscopy and examinations at the hospital. Yoshii appeared on stage at a fan club exclusive event held this spring and said, “Everyone dies, and people can’t go back to the past. It’s been a few years since I thought about what life is.” The video ended with this scene, and the song “FOR GRANDMOTHER” from their 6th album “SICKS” released in 1997 was performed to the motionless audience. This song, which is about thoughts about the end of life, resonated with the audience with a stronger meaning.

Once the applause of 50,000 people had subsided, the four members resumed their highly entertaining performance with numbers such as “SUCK OF LIFE” and “LOVE LOVE SHOW.” Yoshii reveals his thoughts on his new album “Sparkle “The lyrics say, “70% of your life is a trailer, and when you count your remaining lives, the main story begins,” and I really thought that when I wrote this song.I want to enjoy the “main story” with everyone. ”, carefully delivered “Hotel Neutrino” and left the stage.

In response to the audience’s applause, the members took to the stage again and performed “Let’s go with the avant-garde.” In the final chorus of “ALRIGHT,” Yoshii, who had been parading around the arena, got on the center lifter and sang loudly, “More than anything, I think it’s a miracle that we’re doing this here!” Yoshii, who ran around on the flower path with “Sad ASIAN BOY,” said, “My voice hasn’t been perfect yet, and I’m really sorry for having to perform at Tokyo Dome without any guarantees, but I know I can do it because of everyone’s cheers.” “I thought so,” he said, expressing his passion for that day’s live performance and his gratitude to the fans. The song that was performed with the strong feelings of the four members was “JAM”. 50,000 people responded to their sincere sound with powerful clapping and singing voices.

After the members left the stage, a video of the song “Sparkle The sight of Yoshii looking straight ahead and singing his thoughts on “resurrection” gave an impression of the new path THE YELLOW MONKEY had begun to take. While the audience was filled with emotion, the members took to the stage a third time. After Yoshii said, “I feel like I can finally say this again. My Yellow Monkey is forever immortal!”, the members performed their last number, “WELCOME TO MY DOGHOUSE.” At the end, Yoshii left the stage and vowed to come back to this place, saying, “If I get better, I’ll do it in 2 days!”
