Developer Tarock Interactive announced on April 25th, “Lost Legions“announced. The supported platform is PC (Steam). The release date is scheduled for the first half of 2025.

Lost Legions is an open world survival game. The story takes place during the time when Augustus (Octavianus) was the emperor of the Roman Empire, which was beginning to dominate Europe at the time.

At the time, Augustus was aiming to expand his territory, and ordered his general Varus to command three legions to conquer Germania east of the Rhine. In 9 AD, the Roman army and the Germanic troops led by Arminius engaged in a battle in the Teutoburg Forest. The Roman Empire lost all three legions, said to be over 15,000 men. The Roman Empire suffered a historic defeat. This is known as the “Battle of Teutoburg Forest” or “Battle of Vars”.

This work begins after the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. The troops were destroyed in the previous battle. The player, a Roman soldier, loses all his equipment and gets lost in the forest. Players survive in the Teutoburg Forest by crafting and creating equipment and tools. And it seems that the Imperial Army will regain the three flags it lost.

While surviving and exploring the forest, you may encounter enemies. Perhaps it was a Germanic tribe trying to wipe out the remaining forces. In battle, it seems that you can fight in a variety of styles, such as attack, defense using a shield, long-range weapons such as a bow, and throwing weapons. Also, in the forest, you may encounter not only enemies but also NPC soldiers of the Roman Empire. When you rescue them, you can also instruct the legionnaires to collect resources and explore. It seems important to survive while also finding scattered friends.

Building is also possible in the game. From the screenshots, you can also get a glimpse of how the base is being built. The game also supports multiplayer for up to four players. It would be a good idea to try to revive the Roman Empire army with your friends.

Tarock Interactive, the company behind this work, is an independent game development studio based in Berlin, Germany. It appears that around 10 people are working on the game, and this will be the studio’s first game. It is said that the goal is to create an immersive game with a historical theme, and this studio policy is probably reflected in this work.

“Lost Legions” is scheduled to be released for PC (Steam) in the first half of 2025.
