Nairobi (CNN) At least 32 people have died and two are missing after severe flooding in Kenya. The damage has affected almost half of the country, and approximately 103,500 people have been affected.

Heavy rains have continued in Kenya since mid-March, but the damage has expanded over the past week. The Kenya Red Cross has revealed that it has carried out more than 188 rescue operations since March.

Heavy rain continued in the capital, Nairobi, and some roads were closed on the 24th. Some areas continue to suffer from flooding.

“The situation in Nairobi has escalated to the extreme. Even if the local government does its best, it cannot cope with the situation.” A local lawmaker wrote on X (formerly Twitter), calling for “all national emergency services to be mobilized to save lives.” He also posted footage of residents stranded on the roofs of houses.

The Kenya Red Cross is also continuing life-saving efforts across the country, including rescuing residents stranded by flooding in Nairobi’s Mathare district.

At least 32 people have died and two are missing in floods in Kenya.

Parts of two main roads leading to Nairobi were flooded on the 24th, causing traffic jams. The Kenya Urban Roads and Transport Authority has closed sections of four badly damaged roads and said there is a risk of flooding on the remaining two.

Kenya Railways has suspended train operations across the country.

The Kenya Meteorological Agency has warned that heavy rain is expected to continue across the country from the 24th to the 25th.
