Designer Tomoyuki Arima demonstrated the creation of the game’s UI.

In the UI design, it feels like you are holding the steering wheel directly.

Next on stage was Tomoyuki Arima, creative director of the Nippon Design Center’s Polylogue Laboratory and part-time lecturer at Musashino Art University’s Department of Basic Design. In front of “Wacom Movink,” he talked about the experience of actually using it while creating the UI for the game title “Guns Undarkness,” which he is currently involved in.

Mr. Arima is not only impressed with the lightness and thinness of the Wacom Movink, but even though he often uses it in actual UI design, he is unable to fully express it with a conventional pen tablet, so he has given up on it a little. He said he was happy to be able to see the subtle differences in black. Additionally, UI designers often have to input text, so a keyboard is essential. He says that Wacom Movink is unique in that it allows for flexible placement when used in conjunction with a pen tablet. Furthermore, they often have the opportunity to collaborate at work, and for example, during a meeting, they felt like they could easily hand the book to the person sitting across from them and say, “Let’s draw a little bit.”

Mr. Arima places a pen tablet in front of his laptop and a keyboard in front of it.Regarding the stand, it was easy to adjust the angle, and in addition, it was both convenient to carry and rigid, and he commented, “I fell in love with it in seconds.”

In addition, many UI designers use a mouse or a board tab to get the feeling of “drawing,” but Wacom Movink’s minimal parallax makes it easier to “hold the handle directly” even with a pen tab. He said it was a “quite shocking experience.” It allows for intuitive designs as if the player were manipulating the screen, and is highly recommended not only for illustrators but also for those involved in game interaction design. In addition, in the past, illustrations and designs were often discussed after a meeting, but by carrying Wacom Movink around, the number of things that can be tried out on the spot has increased dramatically. “It’s gone,” he said with a wry smile.

Mr. Arima has been a Wacom user for about 10 years, starting with the first-generation Cintiq 13, and he also praises the writing experience. In addition to commenting, “It’s much better,” he also listed a number of practical benefits, such as non-glare, no moiré, and no loss of color even when using black materials on dark backgrounds. He also noted that while it was thin, it remained durable even after doing “some pretty mean things” to it while he was renting it.

Finally, about size. Although he himself has not come to a conclusion as to what is the best size, he feels that it is good to have a size that can be stacked with a 13-inch notebook PC and carried in a backpack etc. It may be because of its size that it has a good affinity with other people.”

Mr. Arima said that he had borrowed and used “Wacom Movink” in advance. He talked about the practical benefits one after another.

“Wacom Movink” is a product that takes full advantage of the characteristics of organic EL displays, and is highly portable, yet also has excellent basic specifications such as color reproduction and contrast ratio, making it a tool that can be carried anywhere in the professional workplace. It can be said that The appearance of such a product from Wacom, which has a proven track record, will surely make a difference in the future market. The release date will be announced at a later date, but we are already looking forward to its release.

I also got my hands on the actual machine, and it was surprisingly light. It was lighter than a typical tablet of the same size, and could be easily held with one hand.

When you put your pen on it, you’ll be surprised at how small the parallax is.Being able to touch exactly where I intended is more comfortable than I imagined.
